Last summer, during a conversation with my coach Elizabeth Derby about harnessing a mix of structure & flow in running a business, she said to me:
And it changed. My. Game.
I’ve always been Miss Logic. Spreadsheets are one of my love languages, and I adore checklists, hard data, and backup plans for my backup plans.
And yet, in recent years, I’ve found that that’s not how my brain works best.
Like a lot of entrepreneurs & creatives, I’ve found (with the help of a fabulous coach) that for me, rigid structure can be more stifling than supportive. But it definitely took getting an outside perspective to clarify that truth for me.
So: These days, I try to rely on data & structured systems only when they support my creative & emotional needs.
And look – it’s a work in progress. But the results have been *chef’s kiss* gorgeous.
Last year, I started keeping track of what days of the week (and of my cycle) I actually feel like being social, and I’ve noticed some really interesting patterns!
For example, I found that on Mondays, I only have about a 15% chance of wanting to interact with people. LOL But on Thursdays, I have a 78% chance of wanting to interact!
So – guess who doesn’t take Monday meetings anymore, and schedules most of her VIP Days on Thursdays? This girl right here! I also found that when creating new connections, I really enjoyed this the most (and had the energy for it) on Thursdays and Fridays.
If you want to start setting more informed boundaries around the outward-facing aspects of running your business, and start creating a more intentional schedule that supports your natural flow state, start tracking your social days!
